Magic: the Gathering in the UK

We are doing this in our Multiverse app:

http://mv.bluebones.net/

(Old shared Google spreadsheet for this is here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ag7TtjWsLhYkdHBBUHF4RG... )

Channel Fireball just did Top 8 Mechanics:

* Retrace

* Dredge

* Landfall (not for attacking like Steppe Lynx - Grazing Gladehart and Roil Elemental style)

* Scry

* Flashback

* Kicker

* Flying

* Cycling

I wonder if we could use that, or some of that, as the basis of You Make the Set 5.  I know that some of you were keen on Landfall.

Not sure when we would play it out but some time in late May probably?

Good work on the playtesting. Isn't synergy exactly what we want for this format? Letting everyone have a combo-ish deck sounds like a good thing to me! I suppose the issues with too many playables should fix itself when played in proper boosters? At present we have nearly as many uncommons as commons and about half as many rares! Since commons are the most likely cuts that should hopefully sort it out a bit.

Now I want to do some real-life playtesting! Cockatrice just isn't as good as the real thing!

Yes, you are right, some of things I've outlined as if they were problems are actually probably really good!  I just wanted to point out where we differed from something like AVR draft or even a good draft format :)

And yes, let's do some real-life testing - it is more fun :)  I have an annoying set of commitments this month but could potentially play Tuesday or Wednesday night this week, or Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday next week.  Probably.

Excellent work on the playtesting Tom!

Valuable information gleaned. One way to help deal with the "too many playables" issue is to intoduce more lands to the set. This way you can actually fit more playables into your deck by using land slots. Unfortunately I don't really like any of the current lands that we have.

I could play Tuesday night if people are up for it and don't mind setting their miserable AVR drafting aside?

I would be up for more play testing tomorrow, also I can bring my cube too if people are up for it.

I get into Kings Cross at 7:00 tomorrow so could theoretically be there for some testing in the evening. Otherwise am good Wednesday or next Tuesday/Wednesday.

Not sure I will be able to make tomorrow or Wednesday actually.  Next week probably better for me.  Don't let me stop you though.

Next week is way better for me anyway. Now I can go straight home when I get back.

We need more Portent at common can we give it to any of the existing U commons:

http://mv.bluebones.net/search/?q=r%3Acommon+c%3Au

or B commons:

http://mv.bluebones.net/search/?q=r%3Acommon+c%3Ab

?

I can't believe there are only 14 cards with Portent in the 'Portent Set', only nine of which are common! And of those only 3 are in 'Portent colour' blue!

The only one I can really see having Portent right now is Blue Tower Apprentice. Playing him and following up with another Portent guy is definitely possible, or you can just run him out as a 2/1 with a bonus.

Newsflash I am now 90% certainly coming home tomorrow so could do playtesting Tues night at TGC.  Can you make it from Kings X Kieran?  Jim + Kieran + Simon + me + whoever?

I can make it for around ten-twenty past seven, though I won't be happy about it. Can't miss a chance to get some proper playtesting done, though!

Huzzah!  See you then!
