Magic: the Gathering in the UK

Sooo it's nearly upon us and there have been a suprising lack of spoilers.. How are we feeling about Modern Masters?  What's it going to do to the world of MTG finance?  At what price is it worth putting in a preorder?  Madhouse is sold out at £220 with only 24 boosters in a box... crazy.

I'm fairy tempted by the £165 boxes on ebay, but it seems hard to justify without a full spoiler.

Buying a box or two to draft definitely seems like a plan (even though there's no evidence the draft format will be any good). It would only be £21 per person to do an 8-man which isn't much more than a regular draft and the rares should all be worth having.

I would actually be very suprised if there is sufficient supply to do drafts as cheaply as £21.  The Modern Masters Release event is still TBC on the Games Club website.  Speaking of which I think i'll get my prereg in now just in case..

what is this modern masters things?

It's a reprint set, designed to get more modern cards into the market.  Normal sized boosters, containing stuff like Tarmogoyf, bob, thoughtseize, cryptic command, kitchen finks, lightning helix, etc.  (mostly guesses here.)

Draftable, but the cost of boosters is higher than normal due to every card in the set designed to be modern playable.

Oh and plus even if we did get to draft this at retail price, £21 wouldn't include any prizes presumably :/

I am not convinced about the value of this set at all, as this is a limited run (an excuse to charge more) will the top cards hold there value?

this whole thing of printing absurdly small quantities of product is getting a little tired

as far as I can work out it helps the traders out a lot

I can't work out whether this is actually going to be true of Modern Masters - it may well be that we'd make more if we just had more of it to sell/break down for singles for a longer period, rather than having one burst of activity (full disclosure: I have no idea how the numbers work out.) It's definitely a weird one though, this normally only happens with boxed set stuff that people want one of at most.

Lol what a rip off. They were doing pre orders for this here at $200 so 100 pounds.

I would like to draft it for fun but the prices they want just doesn't seem worth it. There will be crap rares in there as well as good ones and it wont feel good to pay $30 for a draft and get a bunch of jank.

sorry Tom I actually meant that the trades can get some boxes but the players will struggle to get to many, failure to use actual words

Obv. This set is being pitched at players as being a perfect box to draft with your mates, no one is going to do this at £200 a box!
