Magic: the Gathering in the UK

Pretty uninspiring schedule all around:

Very few PTQs, all of them pretty near here except for the usual 3 - Ireland, Scotland and Manc. People up north/ in the west of england/Wales will be delighted - Not!

It would seem that yet again Jason has been overlooked for a PTQ - le sigh

as glenn says, the old cash travel award was sweet because it made splits super easy but was not usually enough to actually fly anywhere

Indeed. I remember the 'joy' of making the finals of two PTQ's for Japanese PT's. Travel award of $500 meant neither of us could really attend even with the full cash prize, so everything was split and no one attended the PT.

So although harder to split, I actually like the new travel award as it means that the winner will almost certainly attend the PT.

obv since the loss of the $500 I haven't made the final of a ptq, I did make 4 in a season a long time ago and made over a grand in 4 weeks, ahhh the good old days

I also think flights are better. It fits the flavour of what a ptq is.

I just don't see why a flight should be viewed as an atomic prize.

unfortunately glenn you can't just rock up to any given tournament with some swamps, forests and yavimaya elders and expect to win any more haha

edit: i, likewise, can no longer rely on arcbound ravager to reward me in spite of my numerous misplays either :( #reminiscing

I just don't feel the rewards are worth the time/cash investment anymore, it might be a getting older thing but I just think that over the years a lot of wizards decision making have been to the detrement of the game and that has had an effect.  To be fair the wow tcg has some really good rewards for players (promo's, limited edition special cards etc, but there organised play is horrific (organise special tournys 2 days before they are on, constantly fail to sent prize support to organisers, most companies get there prerelease stock and then when trying to reorder are told it is sold out for long periods) not really sure which is better to be fair
