Sounds like it could be fun - I'm gonna look at flights soon. Anyone else interested?

Is there anything we need to do logistically that is unusual? (Visa etc...)

Yes, you have to get an "invitation" and a visa, see Valeriy Shunkov's article on it on SCG

pretty sure that moscow is ridiculously expensive, so will probably pass on this one

Flights are like £200 return as well, bit out of my range.

Yeah - after looking into it I'm not sure this is worth it just for a 3 day visit - and I don't have the holiday time to do more.
