Magic: the Gathering in the UK

Great call to arms from Gavin Verhey:

Sort of weirdly overshadowed or confusified by Wizards Community Cup format, "Modern":

Anyone playing in any of the Overextended tournaments?  Jason or anyone else organizing something for July 2?

It might be because I haven't thought about it hard enough yet but these seem like really fun ideas.

Chapin said something interesting in his article today.

He said Caw-blade was boring now because it is well known and the undeniable best deck in the format.

But that it wasn't boring when it was being discovered especially if you were one of the people who discovered it and were playing it.

I think Dredge is a very extreme example of that.  How fun must it have been to have been the first guy that made it work, or added Flame-Kin Zealot, or whatever.  But now it is just broken and almost impossible to attack on any normal axis.  I'm not sure quite how much it loses compared to Legacy in Modern (Breakthrough, Putrid Imp, Tireless Tribe, ...) but it can stand to be nerfed a little.

I'm up for playing some of this if someone organises something...

Yup, playset of each, not too fussed on condition really either

Paul,
What would you be after? All of them?

dan i'm a little confused about what you're saying here since cephalid illusionist decks do not play dread return, narcomoeba or bridge from below. also the banning of dredge is largely irrelevant since its a pretty bad deck.

i checked ebay for rav block blue-producing duals literally within an hour of the wotc CC/modern announcement but they're already at least $10 each :(

The old ones didn't, with Sutured Ghoul and Dragon's Breath.
yeah my bad, i'm trapped in the old skool. what is gavin verhey's job? i fail to understand how anyone could have the time to playtest a fake format lol
IIRC, he's looking for one in game design. hence a lot of time, and this could even be useful work experience.

Is anyone playing Overextended?

I have that old Mono U Faeries deck from 2009 (?) Extended with Jittes and Mutavaults and counterspells.  I added Jace to it, obv.  Never did $40 for an imaginary card seem like such a steal.  I should never have sold my fifth one at $60.

I have no idea how to beat them when I'm on the draw and they make a one drop and I don't have Spell Snare for their two drop.  I just suspend Ancestral Visions and hope for the best :)

Perhaps I need to add Trinket Mage/Engineered Explosives/Rav Duals/Bitterblossom/Thirst For Knowledge but that sounds expensive!

Verhey's tourneys are Tuesdays 17:30 PST (11:30 BST), starting this Tuesday.  Anyone playing in them?

Hit up bakert99 on modo if you want to test.

I'd love to play this irl, but don't have cards on modo.
