being the enterprising young man that i am, i've spent a little time on ebay this morning (don't tell the bosses!) trying to pick up some stuff now that modern is "confirmed" as a sanctioned format.
there are obvious cards/decks (Glimpse for Elves; Ravager for affinity; Cryptic Command for blue; Jace for everything) but I'm trying to see if I can pick some stuff on the cheap before it gains value.
some examples:
City of Brass (can be found for less than a pound each)
Fulminator Mage (so cheap right now and obv playable)
Death Cloud
Bloodbraid Elf
anyone got any suggestions to share?

LIVING END
Any format where Psychatog isn't a tier 1 deck is fail
Also, gifts ungiven obv!
obv already have 4 gifts, though i don't see that card going over a few quid so doesn't seem worth speculating on
here's some things i'm looking at, feel free to make suggestions dudes
Engineered Explosives
Figure of Destiny
Threads of Disloyalty
Glimpse of Nature
these are the kind of cards that aren't very expensive right now, but as soon as a modern ptq season is announced could double or triple in price or whatever

Tog isn't legal in Modern sadly. Also it secretly kind of sucks now :(
Prices from mtgotraders.com
4 Hallowed Fountain @ $24 ea.
4 Jace, the Mind Sculptor @ $48.95 ea.
4 Stoneforge Mystic @ $4 ea.
1 Sword of Fire and Ice @ $20.50
1 Batterskull @ $9.50
2 Cryptic Command @ $8.00
These cards are damn expensive already! Is Hallowed Fountain up solely on speculation + Gavin Verhey's Tuesday overextended tournaments??
Legacy staples that are legal and make sense like Dark Confidant or Knight of the Reliquary may climb a little but I guess not too much.
What about Ranger of Eos, Chalice of the Void, Oblivion Stone, Grove of the Burnwillows, Body Double, Reveillark, Kiki-Jiki? Not sure. Seems like the manabase is the thing - different to Standard, Legacy and even Extended. Lands are the place to invest if they haven't spiked already I guess.
How high the price ends up going depends on how the format is supported. We still don't know whether there'll be ptqs do we?
Cards that only go in certain decks/combos won't be that expensive.
