Magic: the Gathering in the UK

Hey everyone, for those of you who don’t know me I’ve been
playing at the games club since 2005 and have a number of top 8’s and wins
across a number of events. For those of you who do, hi.

I wanted to share with everyone what standard deck I’m
working on for the up and coming PTQ’s, GPT’s and NQ’s and ask if I could join
any people who plan to playtest for these events. I’m currently stationed in Romford
and the local club there is small but does have a number of good players but
none of them really want to take their game to the next level or all have other
commitments. I can attend any day for play testing but mostly stick to Tuesday and
Fridays. I haven’t been down for about a month as I’ve had work commitments but
now it’s the end of term I’ve got the whole summer to test.

The deck in question is UW control and this is my list.

  • 3 contagion clasp
    3 everflowing chalice
    4 wall of omens
    3 mana leak
    3 spell pierce
    2 journey to nowhere
    2 tumble magnet
    2 tezzeret’s gambit
    3 day of judgement
    3 Jace Beleren
    2 Venser, the sojourner
    1 Elspeth Tirel
    2 gideon jura
    1 Karn liberated
    1 sun titan
    2 inkmoth nexus
    4 island
    4 seachrome coast
    4 plains
    4 tectonic edge
    4 celestial colonnade
    3 glacial fortress

  • Sideboard
  • 4 spreading seas
  • 4 kor firewalker
  • 1 condemn
  • 2 luminarch ascension
  • 2 flashfreeze
  • 2 ratchet bomb

The deck is a mixture of the suggestions of drew Levin and jerry Thompson from Starcity games and is incredibly fun to play. I wanted a 3/3 mix of counter magic as I think spell
pierce will again start to catch people of guard, I also wanted to try a few
cards out as it’s alright theorising and writing about how good or bad a card
is but it’s one thing to actually play with them. For that reason I tried new Elspeth
(who was so so) and tezzerets gambit (which was unbelievably awesome) and I went
4-0 at this week’s standard event. I played RDW, the old pat Sullivan version,
koths and extra land, kuldotha red, mono black vampires with obliterators at the
top end and an interesting Tezzeret BU deck that is similar to what Brian Kibler
suggested this Friday.  I’m thinking of cutting the sun titan for a consecrated sphinx and the Elspeth for another Gideon as he is a real power horse, also am looking for another tezzerets gambit as I did some nice tricks with this and clasps/chalice on turn 3.  the sideboard also needs alot of work as it was put together to combat what i thought i would play on the night.

Suggestions and criticisms are welcome. Decks I can bring to testing are: UW control, RDW, BR vampires and am currently building Tezzeret BU.  Any questions are welcome.
