cheating is bad, and cheats should be punished.

from the look of it he probably massive cheats.  but he could also be sloppy and doesnt call a judge on himself when he fucks up, which is still cheating, but not quite the same as intentionally trying to do it.

for example, i dont believe you could draw you sb cards in game 1 and not realise.

but i think more people that would like to admit it, would just run with it if they found they had done it by accident.

The video of him pulling Kira back to his hand is pretty damning - if his opponent doesn't have the second Jace in that video that trick wins him the game.

i never really understand the whole "not reporting yourself when you make mistakes is cheating" angle. like, playing at a local tournament i'm not going to screw some poor kid out of some product, but if the stakes were high there's no way i'd voluntarily give myself a game loss. like if i was in the bubble round of a pro tour and i when i get my sideboard out to resolve a Cunning Wish i realise that one of my MD cards is in the box too (ie i accidentally submitted 59 cards) there's no way i am going to volunteer that information.

either way, looks like this dude has been cheating quite a lot. i think the whole thing about asking for warnings to be downgraded to cautions is perhaps the most important bit - it demonstrates an active intent to cheat repeatedly in the long term.

I played him in GP: San Diego at 7-1 and beat him.  He was the most famous player I played.  I'd love it if he were also cheating as it would make it even more glorious.

Didn't he have a proper cry about that afterwards to his mates when you were still clearly in earshot?

I think what annoys me more than Bertonicini's alleged cheating is Drew Levin's utter inability to get to the point and when he does to dress it up in all sorts of fancy language and odd phrasing that makes this article verging on unreadable.  Shit like this:

"Vidi plays his eighth land, moves his six-sider off of his Jace, and taps the Kira with it – a clear “Unsummon you Kira, my Jace dies, this ability is countered.” Before the Jace flips over in Vidi’s hand as the Cursed Scroll reveal, though, the Kira is…

…wait, you didn’t see? Took your eye off of it for a sec? Believed that when you saw it sliding toward the  graveyard, the motion would carry through and the Kira would, y’know, actually hit the bin?

Go back and watch it again. Don’t watch Vidi show Alex the Jace this time. Watch Alex. Watch him slide the Kira toward the bin – you know, the same one that isn’t splayed and has Kira on top and then pull his hand – Kira and all – back off the table, slipping his last chance at victory back into his grip."

the problem with the way he has described it is that he make it sound like he has slight of handed the kira back into his hand.

whereas, hasn't he just misrepresented the game state by allowing the unsummon ability to resolve instead of getting countered?

No, he has put the Kira back in his hand. It's confusingly written as the Cursed Scroll activation that destroys Kira reveals a Jace in Vidi's hand.

Bertoncini actually moves his Kira to the graveyard, and then quickly up into his hand in the same movement. The cheat works as his graveyard already has a Kira in it from last turn, so his opponent, if looking, will see it there.

Ah so it is a sleight of hand.  But a doubly cleaver one becuase he can claim confusion due to the Jace bounce.

these cheats are incredible - i'm going to try and get 6 lands on the board by turn three at the club tonight and see if anyone notices.

this guy should be flogged - what a tool

has anything actually been done about this?  I am out of the loop but if there's video evidance of cheating then Wizards should bust him up
