Magic: the Gathering in the UK

Sooo it's nearly upon us and there have been a suprising lack of spoilers.. How are we feeling about Modern Masters?  What's it going to do to the world of MTG finance?  At what price is it worth putting in a preorder?  Madhouse is sold out at £220 with only 24 boosters in a box... crazy.

I'm fairy tempted by the £165 boxes on ebay, but it seems hard to justify without a full spoiler.

At the moment it definitely is somewhat of a gamble. I would, however, buy pretty much as much as I could find at £100 a box - even normal sets appreciate in the medium to long term, and even in the worst case scenario this is not going to be a 'normal' set (guaranteed foils, Tarmogoyf/Confidant at Mythic, plenty of multi-dollar uncommons). For reference, boxes of Future Sight are now something like $500 US.

Lol what a rip off. They were doing pre orders for this here at $200 so 100 pounds.

I would like to draft it for fun but the prices they want just doesn't seem worth it. There will be crap rares in there as well as good ones and it wont feel good to pay $30 for a draft and get a bunch of jank.

Right, it is going to end up being weird unless the print run is bigger than everyone seems to be assuming at the moment. I'm pretty excited to draft this, and I would ideally like to do so more than twice!

sorry Tom I actually meant that the trades can get some boxes but the players will struggle to get to many, failure to use actual words

to be fair if I see a box anywhere for less than £150 I will be buying it for sure

yeah, I call shenanigans

You'll see them at that price from the States, but you're very, very likely to get dinged badly by customs unless they don't declare the value (probably nearly £40 on that sort of amount.)

Some good guesses about print run size and that kind of thing here - http://legitmtg.com/culture/can-modern-masters-close-the-supply-dem... and here - http://www.gatheringmagic.com/finance-value-financial-bruce-richard...

I really hope it is a good draft format as I am going to be proxying it and playing it for sure either way!

Really torn over whether to order some 150 quid boxes here in the states to have waiting for me when I get back ...

The auction I posted is from Greece.

Huh, weird, I think it was the showing price in an even $ amount that threw me!
