i like submityourdraft.com.  well done ben.  i am confused about hate drafting.  i understand that it has its place but many people seem to hate draft at the end of pack 1, taking filler cards in other colours.  i am convinced this is wrong as you want to pass good cards in the colour you are not in to set up for pack 2.

even at the end of pack 2 i tend to pass good stuff i dont want, and only really hate stuff in pack 3.  this was certainly really important in zendikar where you had to get a one or two colour deck.  maybe it has become less important now because people can more easily splash so even if you have clearly signalled in one direction they may still open good cards in your colour and play them.

in summary when is it advisable to hate.

I think you should have sent enough good signals in the initial part of the 1st booster to push the person on your left into certain colour(s).
Therefore by the end of booster 1 you should be able to hate good cards in that colour if there is nothing there for your own deck.
I will only hate draft when there is nothing for my deck in the booster - I will take a card that may or may not end up making my final deck as I do not know how good the card quality will be in the next few packs rather than hate draft.
I think you have it right Ross, just a lot of people are bad. Lol.
I don't really see any need to hate draft - unless it's in a team draft where you'll be guaranteed to play everyone and cutting some ridiculous bomb helps all your teammates who would otherwise have to play against it.
You should hate draft sometimes, just not as often as lot of people seem to.
@Ross- I agree with you. It's easy to think you're sending quite a clear signal, and then find out that the guy on your left did something you didn't expect.
This is also why you should take basic lands over bad spells just on the offchance that someone plays them.

surley this is wrong in pack 1? your aim should be to cooperate with your neighbours not screw them. i clearly depends on card quality - but would you take a deprive off your neighbour pack 1 - in my mind if you do thats something of a similar quality that you lose out on.

In a normal 8 man draft I hate draft only when:

(a) The card I would take for my deck has less than 50% chance of making my final deck. 23rd card type level.
(b) There is no solid sideboard card like Naturalize.
(c) We are in Pack 2 or Pack 3.

However, I pretty much always hate draft if these three things are true. That is, take the objectively best card left in the pack regardless of color.

If you're hate drafting pick 7 of pack 1 aren't you actually changing colors and/or picking up a splash?

And I always take basic lands over unplayables not in my colors. And I always take an unplayable in my colors over unplayables in other colors.

You may be correct that even hate drafting in Pack 2 may be unprofitable. I might stop doing that. It's an unexamined habit.
