Magic: the Gathering in the UK

I haven't been here for a couple of years so let me check that I'm right about what's happening where.  And who goes to these events.  Basically, what is happening in the London Magic scene these days?

Monday - Nothing

Tuesday - Proxied Eternal Constructed @ Dark Sphere, Draft @ County/TGC

Wednesday - Draft @ Dark Sphere, Proxied @ Mornington Crescent/TGC

Thursday - Standard/Draft @ Dark Sphere

Friday - Draft/Constructed @ Dark Sphere, Draft @ Escape/TGC

Saturday - One off events at the County/TGC and Dark Sphere

Sunday - Not a lot

Is that right?

Where are people playing?  Both places?  Do folks have a loyalty to one or the other?  Or do they follow their favored format around?

BIG other question: Dark Ascenscion Prerelease?  Is it a giant clusterfuck still?  Do I need to preregister somewhere?  Is there a chance I might not get to play in a Prerelease?  Did anything resembling Jason's awesome events ever reemerge?

The loss of the massive Pre-Release in London is the main thing that has gone wrong in MtG recently, much more so than the 'loss' of Nats, PWPs, Mythics etc.

The local events are just another tournament - and I feel less drive to attend one or spend nearly as much money at them than I did before.

Because of the loss of the big pre-release numbers do get really limited so I would pre-reg so you can go to the event you want to go to.

But the fact there are multiple places to play MtG in central London is a plus as it can cater to multiple markets.
If one TO isn't willing to entertain a certain type of event and there is enough demand then the presence of someone else willing to do it is great imho.

I play at both venues and feel that's the best way for me to get the most out of MtG in London.

Obviously the problem with this is that clashes in tournaments etc hurt both venues, so if co-operation can be achieved then that would benefit both.

I generally play at TGC because I know and like the regulars there and it's closer to home, but have been to a couple of Dark Sphere events.

I'll be at the TGC FNM next Friday and the TGC pre-re (as Amar says, you really should pre-reg).

Tuesdays at TGC is where it's at. Nowhere near as many people as in the old days, though. Though you can get a whole extra Planeswalker Point for playing EDH before the draft. Which totally makes up for it.

Expect an appearance tomorrow!
