Magic: the Gathering in the UK

Hey guys,

www.SubmitYourDraft.com is finally available!  I'd really appreciate it if you guys could check it out, have a play around and let me know what you think.  You can use the site in one of two ways:

1. Submit your own MODO drafts, instructions are here: http://www.submityourdraft.com/faq

If you choose to do this, your draft will be available for rating by the rest of the community.

2. Critique other peoples drafts.  On a pick-by-pick basis you can decide if you agree or disgaree.  This will cause the pick to get a rating, modify the overall draft rating and modify the members overall rating.

If you don't want to do either of these, then feel free to just check it out and read the draft recaps.  However, signing up will literally take 30 seconds of your time, no email confirmations or anything painful like that, just the basic details.  Register here: http://www.submityourdraft.com/register

While using the site, if you get an error page, then the problem will be automatically flagged with me.  For all other issues, cosmetic, usability, suggestions etc then please leave me a message here or send me an email: ben.titmarsh@hotmail.co.uk

I'm hoping to build up a bit of a community of contributors and critics.  So to kick it all off, I've submitted a couple of my own drafts.  Please head over to submityourdraft.com and let me know what you think.  I look forward to your comments!

Really cool website. I rarely use MODO but when I do I will submit my drafts.
This could be a really important tool if people use it.
Looking good. Except my stupid work computer won't show the card pictures, which means I can't comment when I really want to (ie when I'm supposed to be working). Is there a way to see the drafts without the pictures?
You could select disgaree on each pick, this then shows a drop down box listing the cards. Once you've seen that list if you agree then switch back to agree and submit.
Not used MODO ever, but I'm guessing its similar to drafting normally...

What's up with the 43ish character limit on comments? Its more restrictive then twitter :-o
Also, might be nice to make a comment on a pick agreed with (e.g. if agree but for different reason then drafter comment/reason)

Might be handy to see the list of other picks you've made (i.e. a list of the cards disagreed with), something that scrolls down the side maybe.

What would be handy is if you could click onto a card, and it would automatically select 'agree' or 'disagree' (and the card in the drop down), instead of clicking the radio button and selecting the card manually. Having the 'hover image' would be useful to see other users picks easier.

W3 disability guidelines would say to put the card name as the alt text on the images (would also help if the images don't load for some reason)
Cheers for the suggestions. The 43 character limit is purely a presentational thing. I wanted the scrolling comment list on the right nav to look reasonable. However, this initial beta version is exactly for ironing out issues like this. I'll add a bug to my backlog to look at sensible ways of displaying larger comments. Looking at the ones you left I can see how this limit is too restrictive.

I really like the clicking on a card auto-filling the form idea. Anything that makes the site easier for people to use is good and keeps them coming back. Feature suggestion added. I will also look at adding the javascript hover to pick suggestions.

Would the list of other picks just be an aid to help you decide whether you agree or disagree with a certain pick? Pick opinions based on user pick history is not something I want to encourage too much. It gets to a point where your 9th pick whiplash trap is based on that 2nd pick Umara Raptor that you made, but the original poster didn't. This makes the opinion less useful to the person who posted the draft. If possible it would be nice to get people making pick suggestions almost in a vacuum, or certainly only within the context of what the user drafted, plus your own last 2/3 picks. There is a trade off here between user expression and useful information and I need to find some way of hitting a happy medium.

W3C is definitely on my list along with SEO. Currently missing META tags for example! Thanks for flagging it, and I will be sure to add this.

Picks so far list?
For some reason, every time I view a draft it shows me as not logged in, yet I'm still logged in if I move to another page!
Try clearing your browser cache (in firefox tools > clear recent history > cache, IE tools > internet options) i've not been sent any error reports, which would mean this issue probably exists somewhere between your keyboard and the server call.

Paul posted a draft this morning, go check it out. I'm working on a 1.0.1 release with these bugfixes already. Also intend to modify the user comments window to show new comments at the top.
I think I might have misunderstood some part of the last picks things slightly, although showing the list of what the original drafter picked would be useful - that way its less likely to get confused between what they picked earlier on and what you would have picked earlier on.

Will have a look at the new one that's gone up in a minute.

Put a new draft up this morning, go check it out.

Just so you guys are aware, I consider the current phase very much beta testing. Once all the initial bugs have been ironed out, i'm going to go on a publicity drive. While the site only has a handful of members at the moment, I'd really appreciate you guys visiting as often as you can, using the site and providing feedback. Then when time comes for the big public launch hopefully it'll all be running smoothly.
Not sure what's going on, but I've posted twice on two picks now, and it keeps adding random previous comments I've made to the comment box (which doesn't help when I select agree because it then posts an unrelated comment without me being able to see it first).
