I was getting at the fact that you need to play in more than 1 event to qualify hence giving wizards more cash-o-la

I'm pretty sure the attendance of the Cambridge PTQ was a direct result of people trying to get the PWP's in order to qualify for the WCQ.

and its proximity to pulsar

The deadline is April 1st.  That same deadline applies for GP byes too (300 for 1, x for 2, >x for 3).  That's a PWP "season".

Jim is right that the PTQ being Cambridge's biggest ever was because of PWPs for WCQ.  But Louis is right that the subconscious effect of Pulsar is the primary reason anyone wants to be in Cambridge in the first place, including the TO.

The other thing is that it is meant to be fun.  Don't forget that folks!

Wales:
April 14th - Cardiff - TO Firestorm Cards
May 26th - Swansea - TO Firestorm Cards/ Ioan Llywd
June 30th - Cardiff - TO Rules of Play

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm Pulsar

So people are only going to ptqs so that they can qualify for a ptq????

I think it is an added incentive to attend and travel longer distances

Mr Lovett beat me to it, yes, only Cardiff x2 and Swansea.

Can you be more specific? Dates, shop names, where the third one is etc.

Edit: i remembered the name of the shop in Cardiff and was therefore able to Google.

Cardiff's is 30th of June - run by Rules of Play.

cardiff & swansea, I believe.

I still don't understand how/why "more people went to a ptq they wouldn't otherwise have gone to in order to get enough points to be able to play in another ptq" can be the reason that more people went to the Cambridge ptq.
Was the Manchester ptq before the announcements about the world cup qs? That had 160 people!

Also does anyone have the details for the non london events?

Well, I only know for sure that that was the reason I was there.  The WCQs are the closest thing we get to Nats.  Going to Nats qualifiers and then Nats is good times, therefore I want to be involved.  The PTQs can be my Nats qualifiers and the WCQs can be my Nats.  If the PTQ wasn't fun in its own right I wouldn't have bothered but it definitely put me over the top in terms of wanting to be there.

Also it was really nice to have a goal that wasn't "win the PTQ".  Gave it a little more meaning for someone who is only going to win a PTQ on a *very* lucky day.
