Magic: the Gathering in the UK

We are doing this in our Multiverse app:

http://mv.bluebones.net/

(Old shared Google spreadsheet for this is here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ag7TtjWsLhYkdHBBUHF4RG... )

Channel Fireball just did Top 8 Mechanics:

* Retrace

* Dredge

* Landfall (not for attacking like Steppe Lynx - Grazing Gladehart and Roil Elemental style)

* Scry

* Flashback

* Kicker

* Flying

* Cycling

I wonder if we could use that, or some of that, as the basis of You Make the Set 5.  I know that some of you were keen on Landfall.

Not sure when we would play it out but some time in late May probably?

does porent need to say - yo may play  this for its portent cost the first time it is revealed - like miracles only being  the first draw?

that way most wil be draw step - but you could get clever/lucky if you can draw a card mid turn etc

It could be a combination of two abilities:

When this card is turned face up on top of your library, you may cast it for its Portent cost.

And

As long as this card is face up on top of your library, you may cast it for its Portent cost at any time you could normally cast it.

Kieran - commenting bug is fixed, sorry about that.  Please Ctrl-Shift-Refresh to get the latest javascript.

I think that Portent has to work like Future Sight.  And if we are going to have it trigger off reveal effects (which I am less concerned about although a bunch of cards obviously want that) then it should work like Miracle, too.  So Kieran is right.  Which I believe is the first time ever.

The reason I think it has to work like Future Sight is that for me the flavor is getting this one turn early because you are looking into the future.  When the card is continuously revealed you are able ot see the future clearly and can pick your spot.  By analogy I guess a one-off reveal is a fleeting glimpse into the future.

i dont mind what we end up going with

but we need to consider the version that we can make work with the rules and keep it as simple as possible - but not so simple that we lose the effect we were aiming for.

i am happy to go with what kieran said if we thing that will fit on a card - werewolves had a lot of text and wizards didn't really make any apologies for  that - they justs said that was the simplest way they could get the efect they wanted

I'm wondering if any of the white cards that do nothing but gain life are actually playable. I get the feeling they will mostly suck just as badly as they always have and nobody will ever play them. Creatures with life gaining abilities (especially lifelink) are a million times better. Freya's Chant is probably the only one I'd play because its so amazingly cheap.

if portent triggers on first reveal then that woudl allow us to print a card that put top card of target players library on the bottom/in graveyard as you could respond to your opponents trigger and get rid of their pesky portent card before they play it

There are only four turtles (and Shell Stamp).  Is it time to say goodbye to Turtle as a type?

I retired Ameliorate.

I suppose turtles have already had their moment in a YMTD. some cards will need to have their names changed a bit.

Maybe white centaurs? Make the green ones tough, red ones aggressive (warhorses) and white ones pacifists (shirehorses)?

re: portent - do we really want it to play like miracle, because we all know how fun getting bonfired is...

I still can't comment. And I really wanted to call Tom out for liking his own card! I'll see if it works when I'm at home.

Kieran - do you get a javascript error?  Have you cleared your cache?  What browser are you using?  I found a bug in comment posting that affected Firefox and probably other browsers but it is fixed now so I'd be sort of surprised if you still have a problem and it isn't just a cached version of the buggy code.

And I've liked lots of my cards!!! :)

I'd be really happy to make Portent Future Sight-style only, but does that invalidate the Centaurs mechanic?
