something which is not often mentioned re: the value of the set is the fact that there is a foil in every pack. i still have no interest in paying to draft the set but i think its worth considering for those that do.

So, there's no event on Saturday.

Are we therefore proxying the whole thing (4 x commons, 3 x uncommons, 2 x rares, 1 x mythics) and having our own replacement release event with 3 drafts (12pm, ~3pm, ~6pm) at Penderel's Oak on Saturday?  With small entry fee and prize for top performer?

Anyone up for that on Saturday?

I would certainly be tempted to come up would possibly prefer cube draft but who knows

£30 vs £20 does clearly show a different mindset for these two TOs, however I still think this is worth it at £30 from an EV perspective.  Chas Andres has the packs at $15.25 EV, Russ said he'd calculated $14.50 based on the current market value of the mythics, rares and uncommons.  This doesn't take into account any of the commons or the foil (!) which is where a lot of the value is likely to be.  Even if you say $15 = £10 (and given the same packs that sell for £10 here sell for $10 in the US generally, this isn't a given) it's still roughly a break even call at current prices before you even take into account commons, foils or prize support.

You can certainly make the argument that you couldn't sell Tarmogoyf for the same price Star City does, or that the prices are likely to come down.  I'm also happy with people not participating from a moral point of view.  But all I'm trying to demonstrate is that given the value of what you are likely to open, these prices aren't massively outrageous.

Just curious, what do you mean by "Free FNM Draft"? How does one obtain one of those?  ;)

Dragons maze, same prize breakdown as a regular FNM or Tuesday evening, with the added bonus of being able to change your free FNM draft (if you're the winner) into a MM booster.

Also I *may* be able to make a lunchtime draft at Penderels' Oak on Saturday, would probs have to scoot by 3pm at the latest if I can, though.

Ben you have to note that the avg value of a pack is highly weighted due to the top heavy nature of Tarmogoyf. Your almost playing pack lottery, got a goyf or good mythic, then yay, if not then sad face.

I'm away Saturday, coming back Sunday morning so could do something in the afternoon.

If you win the draft at FNM your prize is free entry to another FNM draft :)

Since I was planning on playing Saturday, having a replacement event (with added beer) sounds good to me. Not sure that I want to do three drafts of the same format though (although proxying different amounts of the different rarities is definitely a good idea - who needs actual product when you have a colour printer?!)

I wonder if they cancelled the release due to lack of interest. Turnout has been low recently, but that does make weekend events decent value for people like me who can now get a 'free' draft for making top 8 in a field of eleven (PS. Baker failed to top 8. Scrub.)

Eh? Run this by me again as I'm worried I'm missing something. Are we talking "Tuesday FNM" - I thought the only prize was boosters... or are we talking about a different FNM?

Because if I was supposed to have a free draft each time I've won when playing with "the randomers" I've missed out on a few free drafts!  :/

While it's true that 'Goyf does warp the statistics a bit, it's not massive.

The rares account for about $6/pack, and Mythics $5.50 or so, and Goyf is approximately 30% of the total value of rares... even ignoring the commons and foils which I couldn't be bothered to do the math on, this means Goyf is only around 1/7th of the total value of unopened MM boosters.

It's also not a Goyf Lottery in the same way that opening Future Sight boosters was (which reminds me, I should run some Time Spiral block drafts sometime if anyone is up for it) because, of the 68 slots for Rares and Mythics, 28 of them are worth $10 or more at todays SCG prices... and very few of them are worth significantly less than $5.

I'm not saying that it's a great value proposition to open packs - but it's really not all *that* bad.
