not even cantrips are safe

what a joke

I don't get why Misstep was banned in Extended. Were people even playing it - there aren't really that many threatening 1 drops.
Damn I just bought the whole modern pyromancer deck on MODO :(.  My Wild Growths, Mirri's Guiles and Enlightened Tutors will not be lamenting the loss of misstep in legacy though :):):)
My Reverent Silence says Hi, by the way.

They want the format to be something quite specific. It isn't there yet, so I'm expecting them to keep aggressively banning until it is.

New formats are fun, and in a way, they've just created a new format.

@Dan: take away all the consistency from a format and you heavily favour aggro decks, as these decks have the most redundancy

control and combo decks both need a source of card advantage/selection to function well, the 3 best forms of selection (or tutoring), which are zenith-ponder-pre-ordain now no longer exist. Yet aggro can still make 3/3s for G (I actually find nacatl to be the most upsetting card in modern out of aggro decks, not goyf). Decreasing consistency increases luck. This is a bad thing, and is what they have done to the format in a subtle way...

the "good" tutoring remaining in the format is now basically:

Fauna Shaman

Birthing Pod

Weird Harvest

Peer Through Depths (I'm not even sure this is good.... without the ability to chain selection together)

+3 mana tutors (Idyllic tutor, transmute, fabricate)

This means that any deck based around a card that results in a single linear strategy (think Ascension, Hive Mind, Enduring Ideal) is simply not viable in the format. I'm not convinced about twin either... but at least that deck can have extra redundancy in ways that others cannot (up to 8 copies of each piece).

I like the cloudpost/shoal bannings, but I don't really understand rite of flame. If you ban ponder and pre-ordain the card isn't actually that strong... but that's just me.

Having a new format for format's sake isn't a good thing. I'm not generally one to go on and on about how the sky is falling... but in simple terms, this format is much worse than the last one due to the fact that only redundant decks can now be consistent

Rite of Flame may be a little pre-emptive of Past in Flames? It also allowed Ascension decks to go off a turn quicker.
The Rite decks were already too fast for their stated intentions for Modern. Past in Flames would have probably made it to those decks as like a 2-of, but would I think have made them more resilient to disruption rather than faster.

Also Russian 9th ed, or 10th ed I can't remember when that started and can't be bothered to look it up, but I know I had some black bordered ones when it was last in type 2.
