Magic: the Gathering in the UK
Block Season? Or Standard Season?
There's a lot going on at the moment but is anyone interested in a DT Block season? Seems like Block was distinctly non-awful at San Juan.
For those that haven't participated in one of these before we set a start date and an end date. You pick a deck and play 1 match with anyone else in the league you can before the end date and report the results here where we publish a league table.
Jason lets us award promo cards for 10 matches or 5 wins or combination thereof like the Deckbuilder's Challenge that's ongoing.
We allow unlimited proxies and I can provide them for folks that need them.
Anyone up for it?

Maybe seeing as we have Standard PTQs in June and July it should be a Standard league so that folks can test.
Christ knows I have no idea about current Standard - there won't be any point in me LCQ-ing for Nats without something happening.

Tom if you want to qualify I can help. I will have almost 2 weeks while my girlfriend is away to help you test. If you build/proxy decks I can play them at the club with you or I can come to yours.
I will be at the club this Friday, all the next week and then the next Monday. I wont be drafting as I have no money so I will have plenty of time to play standard with anyone who is interested in practising.
Decks I would currently reccomend Jund (its still good), Super Friends, and the Mythic/Naya deck Charlie played. The Billy Moreno deck looks spicy and it did win the last PTQ. U/W Control is an option but you would need to test it well.

That's a cool offer - it probably would make sense to test standard instead of drafting if I am going to commit to not being terrible at it. Not sure I'm ready to take the plunge though. We have the you-make-the-set draft on Tuesday of course.
I don't want to play UW Control I want to play the simplest competitive deck. Baby steps!

Tom, Man Up. There is no reason you shouldnt be qualified for Nationals. You have limited your chances by not playing all the qualifiers but its not too late. There should be at least 10 slots available in the LCQ and im sure you can make it. You draft all the time so you dont need as much practice at that.
Also not drafting a couple of times means you have more money to spend on rediculously priced magic cards.

I already have all the magic cards a man could possibly want, surely? :S
I did actually play three qualifiers but literally every match of Standard I have played in the last 2 months was during those qualifiers which is the problem (or part of it, anyway).
OK, let's play Standard and see if I can get good enough at it to LCQ with it after I scrub out of the LCQ draft in the morning :) I don't see M11 radicalizing everything so we're pretty much at the format for Nats now. See you on Friday - do you have decklists for proxying?

Today's articles on SCG are really good, read them all.
The Naya primer may be especially helpful, as that deck is pretty hot.

This has pretty much given me a better understanding of the U/W match. I was wondering why I got crushed game one and that Max dude pretty much explained it. If I knew what that guy playing I think I would have mulliganed into a more aggressive hand.
