Demonic Tutor

Magic: the Gathering in the UK

Edit: If you want to participate in the first Demonic Tutor Constructed League please email your deck list by this Friday 14th August 2009 to bakert@gmail.com ... all are welcome!

It turns out I suck at constructed (even more than limited). I probably need to actually play some competitive constructive more than once a year to get better.

So how about this? You know those pickup games of Standard that we play in between rounds or before 7pm or whenever. Let's instead turn them into a mildly competitive league with a little something at stake.

You would commit to a deck in a blind process, then play one match against everyone else in the league that you bump into for 6 weeks. Then at the end of that six weeks you score a small amount or zero perhaps for everyone you didn't manage to play and a final league table is established. You submit results to me and I'd keep a running league table either on this site or elsewhere on t'internet.

(There is also the possibility that we might get this sanctioned in some way but I don't know much about that.)

What do you think?

sorry i forgot to mention the 2-0 beating i dished out against millsy's faeries and either 1 or 2-0 against that rubbish r/w control deck
james about our matchup - anytime, any place, anywhere BRING IT ON.!
You'll have to submit your deck to bakert@gmail.com before you can play your match versus James!
Tom, any chance of extending the deadline a little?

I want to try something on Saturday you see, but don't want to commit to it beforehand if it turns out to be rubbish in practise!
I can't really now that the Mills-Steve grudge match seems to be set up for Friday.

Take a risk!

Or perhaps we can do something along these lines: submit two decks, if you go better-than-even on Saturday play that one, if you go even or worse play the other deck you submitted. That's kind-of fair?
I guess, just i wanted to see how Guardian Seraph plays in a W/u deck, and obviously have no idea if it's insane, okay, or bad until i've played with it.

My suggestion would be extending deadline til monday eve, but if you submit before then you can starrt playing against others who are also ready. Your baby though, so i'll go with whatever rules you want to use :)
The problem with that is that you get to see what other people are playing (if you see Steve and Mills playing a Warp World mirror match it's bound to affect your deck choice). So I think we have to enforce the Friday deadline in one way or another. But you can use my double-deck-submit plan if you like to save you from playing a bad deck ... send them both over and if you win with it on Saturday, you play it. If you lose with it, you play your backup. Deal?
i shouldn't worry too much about it dan - losing with either deck will be fine
Fail
