Magic: the Gathering in the UK

From Aaron Forsythe on Twitter:

". There will be at least one team event on the GP calendar at some point in 2012 so long as I have anything to do with it."

If there is one in Europe, I think this will probably be the event I most want to play in next year.

I remember starting a discussion at the Southampton NQ about who we'd team up with if/when team events returned, so let's revive that now it's actually relevant:

- Who would you want as your two team mates?

- What would be the best* London/UK/world team?

(* = most fun? best chance to win? best looking?)

This would be awesome and probably the 1 event I would most like to play in next year (barring PTs). It's also probably just about the only thing that would bring matteo + dan out of semi-retirement.

Any 2 out of matteo/dan/JR would be my preferred 2 teammates. For pure old-school coolness id prob have to go with dan and teo. I also (unsurprisingly) think this would be the strongest UK team :P.

Strongest london team imo: o keefe, roids, p diddy.

Strongest world team: lsv, pv, juza

scott wills was crazy good at team events, he beat me in the finals of at least 2 team ptq's, Rich moore was also really strong on the team front, they are both a bit oldschool now though
FU im totally better than Royde, he just durdles his opponents to death ;)

Also O Keefe hardly plays any more, didn't even come to Nats this year. :(

Suck it Charlie!

I really hope that they do at least two- otherwise it is likely to be in the US.

at the risk of sounding like a barn, i seem to remember glenn being pretty hot at team sealed back in the day.

that aside, if i could pick anyone despite them not really playing much any more i would definitely choose richard moore.

more sincere answers, localised to london:

my picks for general hilarity: dan barret + james mills

my picks for maximum drinking: glenn goldsworthy + tim willoughby

my picks for if i actually wanted to win: thom richardson + nathan gotlib

assuming Rob Stanjer is still in retirement (Rob always gets first refusal for team events)

I would def. team with Charlie + Dan R... I'm not sure we would WIN, but w/e (heh, who am I kidding obviously we would win :P)

best London team would be:
O'keefe (I'm surprised, I thought I was the only one that rated him...)
Tom Reeve
Me! (I don't think I've ever lost a match of team rochester, for fun or money)

assuming its limited.... constructed would just be horrible for any london team

world is obv
PV + LSV + Owen
Owen is much worse than PV and LSV but they could a) outvote him, and b) he spots random plays that other people don't (this is why you have to have a control.... to distinguish good from bad)

Sheffield....

Sheffield was amazing- easily the best nationals ever.

Me Charlie Pete would be a team I'd be happy/proud to be on.

If they do do it, I wonder how byes will work.
Sheffield was a terrible place for nationals (best for you as you won), but going out was terrible, nowhere near as good as Brighton or London, Brighton was far and away the best nats I have been to

I did make a bunch of top 2's but never got over the hump as team rochester is proper hard man, you need to definately not have mark glenister making your picks (there are some great stories involving him not reading cards before picking them)

Somewhat ironically, I think being friends with so many people would actually make finding team mates quite difficult for me, as I'm not part of an "obvious" trio.

Would probably like being with Mills + someone else. He's better than most people give him credit for, and win or lose I know we'd have a lot of fun.

Also enjoyed that 2HG I did with Phil - Team New Era?
