Magic: the Gathering in the UK

Anyone going to Amsterdam (Sep 3-5) and/or Gothenburg (Aug 28-29, weekend after Nats)?

Jason is working both.  Paul H is going to Gothenburg as he won the GPT on Saturday.

anyone got any detail on where the venue is in Gothenburg? Don't want to be staying too far from the site but guess it's a small city.
Provisional costs for Amsterdam - departing Wed 1st Sept (so you can play LCQ on Thurs), returning Monday 6th Sept.

Flights: ~£55 from Luton

Hostel/apt @ Bulldog:
Triple/Quad luxury room ~£170-180
Apartment ~£160 (though may be mixed groups only)
Dorm ~£140

Food/drink: ~£150 total

3 drafts, 2 sealeds, and a constructed: ~ £100

Other sights: ???

Total: £450 ish?
No,
Flights aren't going to be too bad- it's not that far.
I expect that Sweden will be relatively expensive while there- Scandinavia normally is isn't it?

I don't know any details though.

My reasons for going = I haven't been to a GP since Brighton!
My girlfriend's degree involves lots of scandinavian stuff- hence more than usual keenness to sightsee.

Cool - do you know roughly how much flights will be and how expensive Sweeden is?

Excellent!
I'm not going to do anything about it for a couple of weeks- want to finish term first. But as soon as that's done.

Royde Rage - After checking out Gothenburg I may actually joing you on the trip. Let me know when you are deciding to book.
i'm probably interested in both so do let me know what's happening : )
I'm probably going to Amsterdam and not to Gothenburg.

Glenn (birthday) and Charlie (Q'ed) are going to Amsterdam for sure so that seems like enough of a reason to go :)

Gothenburg is the weekend after Nats whereas Amsterdam is two weeks later so that also helps me pick one.

I think I will probably fly in Thursday 2nd (not that interested in trying to LCQ for the Pro Tour) and fly out Monday 6th.

The Amsterdam Convention Factory is 15-30 mins walk from Centraal Station so it's fairly near everything while not actually in the center. I'll probably still stay in a hotel that's particularly near to it rather than in Amsterdam proper. More chance of it being quiet which a cranky old man like me appreciates and the ability to nip back to hotel for stuff. Possibly/probably in the Lloyd Hotel and Cultural Embassy in the 3* rooms which is a weird but cool seeming hotel that is about the only one within 10 min walk of the venue.

Probably these flights:

16:40 Depart London (LGW)
Arrive Amsterdam (AMS) 18:50 Thu 2-Sep
Duration: 1hr 10mn
easyJet 8877

19:15 Depart Amsterdam (AMS)
Arrive London (LGW) 19:25 Mon 6-Sep
Duration: 1hr 10mn
easyJet 8878

Anyone want to join me? If a couple of people say they're definitely going I'll go ahead and book this.
Pretty tempted by the dam... not sure I can commit just yet though, need to work out how much time i can get off work.
You could always fly Fri-Sun and only need one day off. But better to do it the other way.

I am def going to this Tom, but may be going to Amsterdam earlier then you, probably on the Monday(30/08/10), coming back the Monday after the PT (06/09/10).

I know Rebecca Bonfield also is def going and wants to book hotels soon, if not necessarily flights - as she may win a PTQ.

I am looking to book both flights and hotel within the next week as my last attempt at a PTQ failed with me losing in the semifinals.

PS - Not going to Gothenburg.
Centre of Amsterdam isn't actually noisy as far as your hotel room goes (i've been twice before), although it will be a ~20 mins walk to the venue. Which is fine if you're not planning on only playing Magic - the two drink museums/factories down by the Van Gogh museum are well worth an afternoon of your time, for instance. Anyone else thinking of a central location to stay? Mills/Nathan/etc?

It's also a bit cheaper to stay in central = more beer money for us young'uns.

How easy is it to get to Gatwick from central btw? Last couple times i've been away i got the train up to Luton from St Pancras (20 mins), you see, so may fly our from there again.
I'm trying to find info on the holel I stayed in when I was there - I seem to remember it being central and well priced.

Also when do you want to book flights for this as I'm up for getting this sorted as soon as possible?

After next pay day (15th July) - i'll look at hotels/flights and bring details with me to M11 pre-re?
Your definition of noisy and mine probably differ by a decade :)

I moved rooms last time I was in Amsterdam central to get away from the street.
