Tom:

Hahahahahaha.

I actually thought this might solve a lot of problems I have with the format.  No one can accuse you of breaking the "social contract" if you draft the cards that are in front of you and then play them.  No one will be sad to turn up with their group hug deck and be infinite-combo'ed out by Sharuum on turn 4.  Trying to win seems more reasonable in this format.  There won't be an endless procession of Sol Rings and mana fetching.

I don't know what the *point* is exactly but it's another draft format to try out.  Possibly not worth proxying and sleeving 1000 cards for ...

I'm not sure these two formats really go together. If you want to cube, regular cube is surely just as good, and not as dependant on who managed to draft the sickest general (some of the options are way better than the others - especially if you end up having to go 5 colour without enough fixing). On the other hand, it does make me sad when people approach EDH as an exercise in doing broken things rather than as a chance to do something interesting. Brutal decks that crush all opposition are what Constructed tournaments are for. Also, my 'mental' cube is nearly completed, which will make all other forms of cube redundant! (That or be impossibly complex and terrible, which is far more likely).

Kieran - I have to agree with you on your points, edh cube would suck so hard, huge cube plus time to draft, games going on forever.

My on going issue with EDH is actually not the people who make broken decks, at least they try and end the games in a timely fashion, how often does an edh game go over 2 hours, a lot of the time in my experience.  If I'm gonna spend so long playing I would much rather play cube or type 4 or a board game

You can get 2 winston drafts done in 2 hours!

I have the same opinion Glenn.  Despite being one of the major supporters of EDH back in the day, I do find anything above 2 player (which seems to be the point of the format as far as most people are concerned) to be more of a slog than anything.

- Your early permanents tend not to matter as the board will be swept 5-10 times before the game is over

- You quickly lose track of what half the permanents on the board actually are

- Being multiplayer, the politics tend to dictate that everyone focuses on the most powerful person at any given time.  This person switches around a lot and the games go on even longer.

- It's basically impossible to have time to get a game in before or during the draft at TGC during the week.

I love the construction rules of EDH and to a large extent prefer the process of actually putting together a list of cards to actually playing the games (with > 2 players) these days!
