This event still seems totally awesome to me.
The level of interest shown is great. It has also revealed quite how many lurkers we have on DT!
I definitely think that pay-in-advance no-refunds is the way to go here.
Cash prizes suit people with not much money and a good chance of winning (hello Rob) but not anyone else and to make it about money is to make it less fun for the majority, IMHO.
Because you wanted my opinion, right?
Tom what dates are you back in the UK next year?

I guess when I came out in favour of cash over cards as prizes I should have been clearer: I have next to no interest in winning cards. I'd rather there were no prizes (beyond say a trophy/ somehting symbolic) and that people didn't pay. If there's prizes on the line, it changes the nature of the draft and makes it less relaxed.

That being said, prizes and a small entrance fee ensures people actually bother to show up. It's easy to say 'I want to play' on a forum, but it's a different story dedicating a few days of your life to actually doing it.
I'm not going to break my balls organising a multi-tiered event if no one actually bothers to show up on the day.

Dan - the whole point of a tournament is that there is something on the line and prizes can be won. If you don't want to pay and don't want prizes then you can do that any time you want with any cube. This tournament has a specific purpose of making cube a bit more competative.

Prizes give the event more prestige and I don't see any problem with making this competitive.

Lessons learned in this thread:
Don't listen to Stanj and Royde when it comes to organising tournaments.
Heh, fair enough.
Though I can't help but point out (and I realise that I sound like a nob for saying this :( ) that I'm the only one in this thread who's actually run events.
