Modern Thoughts?

So what are peoples thoughts on Modern and the ban list they have given?

 

Seen a lot of complaints on the wizards forum about how they banned too many cards and it will just be loads of agro decks. Not really sure thats true as something like Revilark seems like it could be very good against agro decks.

 

Could be time to bring back the Teachings :)

i know that playing ascension, cascade, hive mind or belcher i would be happy playing against wildfire every single round. oh cool, eye of nowhere! nice deck, etc.

 

that u/g vial deck looks gas though. for those who haven't played the format yet - vendilion clique is a total beating. i actually think clique is better than confidant in the format right now [gasp!]. glen elendra archmage is also severely underplayed [outside of reveillark, at least] right now, and is live against, like, every deck.

@Dan: I write for fun really... I don't think I could churn out a weekly mtg article or anything like that without burning out quickly. That's why most of the stuff I have written has been for sites like magic-league which have no real widespread following. The idea of tons of people I've never met (as opposed to friends I know irl or through friends of friends) playing a deck I spent a lot of time working on doesn't actually appeal to me (and that's what I would normally write about)

Phil, on the draw with cascade you will never hit your cascade spell. On the play, you can do it with a simian spirit guide, assuming you manage to get the green source (for violent outburst) AND an ssg, AND can still win after that before 2 ld spells a turn happens. Ascension is also very bad against this sort of deck.

 

Hive mind is slightly different because it has bloom, so can play the waiting game in that way, in which case playing vore is at least pro-active, as opposed to a control deck that will just sit there. You can modify the deck to play more negate effects if you are worried about hive mind.

 

I haven't played with or against belcher so can't comment... have a list?

also: does anyone have any foil Ingot Chewers? irl, not modo. I'm trying to foil out this deck and they are puzzlingly the only card i can't find in foil. it's been easier to get the rares and uncommons in foil, and this card is only a common!
