Wow Nightmare Void//Zombify is a pretty good single card engine

Same with Life from the Loam//Edge of Autumn

Or do these not work as split cards all the time?

You can use them once as each card.  So you discard Zombify/Nightmare Voide/x/x, then dredge it, then cast it as Zombify something.  But can't Zombify then Dredge then Zombify.  Same rules as mental magic.

Maybe the packs should be smaller or it should be winston or off-the-top only to avoid mental fatigue?!

Hmm not a bad guess at all, but I don't think Burning of Xinye has a promo. Maybe printed outside of a normal block?

So promos, plus Portal, plus Commaders Arsenal etc...

Yes, it's promo/special only.  The basis is the 98 full art promos.  Then I have been adding other visually interesting/rare versions of cards to make up the numbers.  Portal in Chinese/Japanese and judge promos so far.  I'm not sure if it's possible to have a pimped out proxy cube but if it is this would qualify.

It's also a pretty cool selection of cards.  Plus Hada Freeblade.
