Magic: the Gathering in the UK

A lot of people tend to go through phases of quitting and re-starting the game, and I'm finding that I definitely have times when I really like it and times when I'm a bit bored with it. It's probably entirely set dependant (Innistrad was awesome, but I've been quickly bored by all of Scars block, Avacyn Restored and now RTR and Gatecrash). People always say that the game was better in the old days, but is this really true, or is it just that the more you play the game the less real difference you notice between sets? Especially with "New World Order", the commons in the sets seem to be more and more similar and (probably due to smaller set sizes) there seem to be less 'buid-around' uncommons, less creatures with CIP abilities, and more creatures with decent P/T and minor/no abilities. So I guess what I'm asking is whether this is actually the case, or if people just get 'magic fatigue' and that's why so many people end up taking breaks from the game to just play cube etc? Or is the quality of sets just worse now than it used to be?

maybe there are more MAGICAL league players than i thought! we should set up some games at some point, could be nice to get 5 (maybe even 10!) of us together. perhaps 6 for 3v3 might be more realistic? my preference is:

top>support>jungle/mid>adc

I know Dan Royde used to play, and Louis.

I might be tempted to come out of LoL retirement for that!

I used to play a lot of dota pretty well so would be interested in picking up LoL if I had plenty of people to play with and I'd probably pick i up fairly quickly

Doesn't even mention me - cheers ;)

Isn't LoL a real-time game?  That is, don't you reactions and ability to click in the right place in time play a large part in your success at the game?  That's a super turn off for me so I never bothered to try it.

yes, if you have bad reactions or poor mouse accuracy then you will likely not be very good at league

Snoopy196 if you want to add me, I'm not very good yet though.... give it a couple of weeks

Support -> Mid -> Top -> Jungle -> ADC

I've tried watching LoL a couple times, and I'm afraid I just don't get the appeal.

LoL is a good game in its own right, but is especially fun because you play it with four friends.
I'm DeTeReR on EU West (or US, but don't play there anymore)

Guess I'll have to download LoL now I've found out it has a mac client...

Username is Pugilation on EU West :)

wrt magic, I've had some awesome experiences in the last few years, highlights are Worlds in Rome, nats in Sheffield and GP Ghent. The game aside the theme through all those is definitely the people - both hanging out and meeting new and interesting opponents. With regards the game, it's still fascinating how all the cards interact with each other, but I just don't have the time to devote to constructed, nor the desire to drop £££ on a deck that may not even be good. Cube is the nuts, and is my preferred magical format for sure.

I've actually been enjoying Magic a lot more recently which is strange because I usually moan about it all the time.
