Magic: the Gathering in the UK

Hey guys,

www.SubmitYourDraft.com is finally available!  I'd really appreciate it if you guys could check it out, have a play around and let me know what you think.  You can use the site in one of two ways:

1. Submit your own MODO drafts, instructions are here: http://www.submityourdraft.com/faq

If you choose to do this, your draft will be available for rating by the rest of the community.

2. Critique other peoples drafts.  On a pick-by-pick basis you can decide if you agree or disgaree.  This will cause the pick to get a rating, modify the overall draft rating and modify the members overall rating.

If you don't want to do either of these, then feel free to just check it out and read the draft recaps.  However, signing up will literally take 30 seconds of your time, no email confirmations or anything painful like that, just the basic details.  Register here: http://www.submityourdraft.com/register

While using the site, if you get an error page, then the problem will be automatically flagged with me.  For all other issues, cosmetic, usability, suggestions etc then please leave me a message here or send me an email: ben.titmarsh@hotmail.co.uk

I'm hoping to build up a bit of a community of contributors and critics.  So to kick it all off, I've submitted a couple of my own drafts.  Please head over to submityourdraft.com and let me know what you think.  I look forward to your comments!

I had the same problem as Tom this afternoon - the Next Pack option just took me back to the same pack only without my comment added.

I really want to submit a draft for this site, but my internet is too inconsistent. Might just record my packs at the club tonight instead!
Is that what you are getting Tom? I really can't recreate this.

Kieran - I've sent you one of the files from a previous draft of mine. This is the sort of thing you need to create if you seriously want to do that!
I don't have any problems on Chrome clicking on 'next pack', although its a bit slower to use as it gets the images each time - with the old view images lower down the page would load while I was looking at the top and thinking so were loaded by the time I got further down.
Ah OK. A false assumption on my part. Not sure if it is a UI failure or not. I thought "Next Pack" meant go on to the next entire booster. As in "Pack 2, Pick 1" or "Pack 3, Pick 1". I think that's a very common way of using "Pack". I would relabel this link "Next Pick" which is less ambiguous for simpletons like myself.
I had a similar thought; 'pick' seems clearer (as 'pack' has multiple meanings)

Some of the changes made since last time i used this are HYPER ANNOYING*.

Having to click agree/disagree, then click vote, THEN move mouse all the way over to "next pack/pick" and click again is far too much work. I didn't finish voting on a draft just now because of this, and i think a lot of others coming to the site may be similarly frustrated.

Also, if you want to vote disagree, surely there must be an easier way, than finding the card you would rather have picked in a drop-down?

Isn't clicking on the card you want to pick FAR more intuitive?

These points being said, i do like the new previous picks beign displayed.

And as said last night, once it's all ready to go i'll see if i can get some coverage via bloggers i know.
You spoke, I listened. CLASSIC VIEW IS BACK BABY. No one seemed to like the page-based shenanigans so I decided to cull it completely rather than letting people choose which view they wanted.

Dan - Clicking on a card rather than choosing from a drop down is on my todo list fo' sho'.
Don't know what happened but I signed up last night and went through the whole process of submiting my draft. Left comments on the games as they happened then went to submit and it said error. Tried going back an doing it again but it didn't work. Tried removing some of the comments as I thought perhaps they were too long but still didn't work.

Gave up and was pretty pissed off that I had wasted so much time. Have no idea what caused this and really don't want to try going through it all again.

Man, i'm really sorry Gary. There's nothing that annoys me more than hearing of issues like this. All I can ask is that you bear with me during this initial beta phase while all of the bugs are ironed out and consider giving it another go.

I've got the error report from your particular problem and my assumption would be that the client (your browser) timed out. Roughly how long did you spend on the page where you make all your draft comments? I set the timeout at 60 minutes, but can easily increase this. If it's conceivable that you left the window open on that page for over an hour then this is our problem. If it definitely wasn't this long, then let me know and i'll drill down deeper.

sounds like gary was submitting his draft.. LIVE.

i don't actually have MODO but i belive it takes longer than an hour to play out?
Yeah, but for the actual submission process all you have to do is copy and paste a file produced by Magic Online into the site when it's all over. It is entirely possible though, that someone may leave the window open half way through and come back to it, or just take a long time writing comments etc. I'm going to up this to 3 hours, as it won't have any significant performance impact on the site.

Gary - this will be live this evening, and I do hope you'll consider giving submission another go. If it fucks up this time I owe you a pint or two!

but if gary "Left comments on the games as they happened then went to submit and it said error"

then he would have had it open the whole time he was playing.

i thought i'd point this out becuase it sounds like gary was doing ingame notes (which is really cool) and got timed out on
