New eternal constructed format to get around reserved list

word on the streets is that they're brewing up a new constructed format which is every expansion and core set from masques onwards with no rotations

this way they can have an eternal style format without ridiculous cost barriers which is suitable for PT/GP/PTQ/etc play

anyone have any thoughts? I think this sounds like a good idea. though the brigade of legacy players who already have all the staples will doubtless complain endlessly about those of us who "didn't have the money/sense" to buy our duals 10 years ago

It sounds like a kind of super-extended. I doubt it will be very popular amongst the Legacy format - they don't reprint cards to save investment of those who already own then cards, but slowly kill the formats in which they see play - killing off the investment.

It has Dark Ritual, Mind's Desire, Dredge and Ichorid in it, so I can't complain about how fun it will be :)

Dark ritual will probably be banned. TEPS will be nuts. As will GOBLINS. And Fae. it will be really, really interesting....

That makes you a narrow player......... there will be other combo decks. And minds desire is one of the least fun, balanced, or interactive decks ever. Your interaction extends as far as having answers for disruption. Its less interactive than dredge...

It certainly looks like an interesting idea.
Do we know if this is supposed to replace either legacy/ extended or to be an additional supported format?
If it were to be a more accessible version of legacy, then ritual needn't be banned.
I can't help but wonder if MYOS wouldn't be a better format- again, it depends what power level is being aimed at.

I really hate that argument they put up, as:

a) some of us (e.g. ME) only started playing in the last few years and didn't have such an opportunity.

b) not everyone is immediately interested in eternal formats even if they have been playing a fair number of years

I do wonder about how PTQable any eternal format can ever be. Some people complain about extended having a high barrier to entry, and this would only be worse. Unless the plan is to find ways to reprint the cards that turn out to be staples of the format...?

Meh. I hate teps. And i doubt they will reprint cards. The barriers to entry will be minimal to those who have been playing extended for 2 years+, as there are not that many good rares from previous sets IIRC.

Getting fetches, Rav duals, and cards from Onslaught onwards is SO much easier than getting cards from Urza's block and previously, and original duals.

Also, the Rav duals were not guild-named such that they *could* be reprinted in future...
