Definitely interested!
IN, SO HARD.
This is really great. But geography prevents me from attending :(

You definitely want to use proxies, IMHO, because it gives you the flexibility to have any cards you want and makes the risk of losing or damaging cards negligible. You can even have multiple copies if that isn't sacrilege.

If this somehow doesn't happen until April I will probably be back in the UK and would play in a flash. The prizes are only a very small part of the attraction for me though - I don't know about others - so you might want to tone them down to make it cheaper?

Very cool idea.
sounds foookin fun im in
If you get more than 6 lands im pretty sure you dont have enough cards for a vaguely good deck; but it could be worth a try :/

Hmm... well that would make a sealed event with a 360 card cube impossible. :(

Have you ever tried with 45?

That Ginger One said:
I've done 90 a lot and its probably too many; but it depends on the land and multicolour counts of the cube, but I reckon 80 is near to the right number

Excellent point -

I'll need to rethink this - it could be that each player gets a 45 card pool, but this might be too few cards to adequately build a deck. Does anyone have any experience with Cube Sealed Pools? What's the right number?

i don't quite get how the sealed works.
how do you make 16 sealed pools of 75 cards out of a 360 card cube?
How about this -

For the post qualifiers Sealed event, a 120 card 'Cube Reserve Pool' will be added to the 360 card Cube. This will give eight players a 60 card 'sealed pool' with which to construct a deckfrom for a five round tournament, cutting to a top 8 draft of the original 360 card cube.

The 120 cards will be those that didn't make the cut for the 360 card Cube - those with bigger cubes (450+) will tell you that these 120 cards will still be extremely strong!

I don't want to use proxies for this event - especially because it could result in folks opening absolutely busted-in-half-pools. Imagine opening double Sol Ring?!?

I'd rather keep it pure, and I think the 'Reserve List' idea makes this work.

I might scale down the tournament for Series I - something like -

16 players total
2 qualifying Sealed Pool events (5 rounds, top 4 from each go to top 8 event)
1 top 8 Draft (5 rounds)

Prizes
1st Jace, the Mind Sculptor
2nd Tarmagoyf
3rd Foil Sol Ring

If the tournament is a success, Series II will be 32 players with a set of Dual lands up for grabs.

What do you guys think about this?
I don't think people were suggesting using duplicate proxies (allowing for double sol ring, e.g.), but to avoid your expensive cards going missing/getting damaged. Also you could have 2 identical cubes running simultaneously

Prizes should be cube-related, as such I love the idea of the foil lands/signets and foil sol ring, and Jace TMS is okay, but think there might be a better prize suggestion than Tarmogoyf. And maybe a small prize for all top 8 players?

Also, I think it would be good to have an outside group design and/or balance the cube for two reasons.

1 - Ensures fairness, they can make sure all archetypes are viable, etc

2 - Promotion of the event - getting e.g. cubedrafting.com involved means we could write up the event and be featured on there and/or SCG, meaning future events could be huge, and they may even replicate your idea abroad. Imagine if SCG ended up doing this at their next Invitational!
Warren this looks excellent and I would certainly want to play!

I've had my fully powered cube for quite a while now so if you want some help or thoughts on construction just let me know.
Totally agree that the prizes should be Cube focused.

What about something like -

1st Full set of foil Cube Equipment (Sword of Fire and Ice, Sword of Light and Shadow, Sword of Mody and Mind, Umezewa's Jitte, Loxodon Warhammer, Behemoth Sledge, Skullclamp, Sigil of Distinction, Bonesplitter, Trust Machete, Darksteel Axe, Lightning Greaves)

2nd Full Set of Foil Cube Manlands (Mutavault, Worldwake Manlands, Mishra's Factory, Treetop Village, Urza's Factory, Gargoyle Castle, Kher Keep, Blinkmoth Nexus)

3rd Full set of Cube Mana Artifacts (foil Ravnica signets, Sol Ring, Coalition Relic, Mana Vault, Grim Monolith)

Or something along those lines?

1] I want to setup a 'Cube Committee' to setup the final 360 card list as well as the 120 card reserve list. I'll setup a separate thread for anyone who wants to take part in the process.

2] Great idea! I want to try get some sponsorships too so we can start offering amazing prizes if the first Series is a big success.

I also want to film some of the games (definitely the top 8), and get them edited and uploaded to Youtube. This will go along way to promoting Series II and the awesomeness of Cube in general! Something hopefully a sponsor would be interested in branding too. ;)

By my count there are 19 people on this thread who want to take part and it was posted yesterday.

Therefore I would strongly suspect you could fill 32 on the first go.
Sword of Mody and Mind is a trap!!
Definitely interested, not sure if its feasible for me to come (its date dependant) but would love to do it
