Do you have any?

Here are some from me.

1. Buy boosters off PackBoosterBot, don't buy them in the store.  They can be up to $1 cheaper from the bots.

2. You only need 60 basic lands and a  Momir Vig avatar to play Momir Basic.

3. There's a free Overextended tourney with prizes every Tuesday at 0930 and 1730 PDT run by Gavin Verhey, details at www.mtgoverextended.com

(These are all "cheapskate" tips to some degree ... that's not my intent, I'm just a cheapskate!)

What about you?

How much is an overextended deck?

Living End or Burn is pretty cheap.  Things running Confidants and Sword of Fire and Ice and that kind of thing less so.  Manabases are not cheap but they aren't crazy either especially if you have ZEN fetches already.  I think Project Melira is pretty cheap, and cool. Decklists here: http://mtgpulse.com/events-overextended and deck information here: http://mtgoverextended.com/perfect-information-the-first-six-weeks/

Using the store at all is best avoided.

I don't know how easy it is these days, but it used to be much cheaper to buy tix from ebay/websites. You could get them for under $1 / ticket- no VAT.

My tip is play 4 pack sealed. It only costs 4 packs to enter and no Tix. Payout is 5 packs for 3 wins, 3 packs for 2 wins and 1 for 1 win.

I find this to be better than swiss draft as you can actually profit from going 3-0 and even 2-1 if you open anything half decent. You get to play 3 rounds so its better than single elim too.

my tip is to play pauper because its the best constructed format in the game at the moment. you can build most pauper decks for like $10 and there are literally like 30 viable decks. and now that the format has dailies and premiers you can actually grind some good dollar on it.

my other advice is get some decent basic lands to play with, if you play random modern card frame basics without matching art then you are basically subhuman

also remember F3, F4, F6, F7, F11, F12. expect to time out a few matches before you get to grips with aspects of the interface like this. also announce your spells before adding any mana to your mana pool, its like a billion times quicker
I lost my first match to time out in 3 years today, I was rushing so much that I did not click on a creature to attack with the other creatures and then F6 so I would not run out of time, if the click had work I would have won on damage with 1second remaining! bloody modo!

Agreed Pauper is good, the good decks are probably a bit more than that now as the old commons have gone up in value due to the popularity of the format.

Also dont play this format till M12 is released as it pays out in M11 boosters at the moment and they are not woth enough to make a profit unless your winning like 90% of your games.
