Fair enough, but he hasnt been particularly good for some time. Im not saying that he is bad, but I played him a couple of times and was pretty unimpressed, and i'd rather sit down vs. him in a PTQ now then say, Simon or Rob (or before they moved country, especially Geoff and Yew). And did you ever come to the club when it had a large of the better players in the country, winning drafts was really hard.
Okay, so what do we need to do to get the current group of players here up to that level again?

In all honesty just play more. Peter was good because he played all the time. Yew was just....so good for no reason. Geoff also played alot. I used to be alot better when I played once a week or more, same for Rob. The problem is that there is no longer the omnipresent always attending core of really good players (geoff, peter, Rob, me when i test alot etc) to force everyone else to get alot better. The thing is, everyone who goes to the club regularly is good, but there is no impetus for the good players to get much better as they are at the top of the ladder. This is why having Peter at the top of the ladder (along with geoff/yew/rob etc) because Pete tested on the internet so much he always got better, forcing everyone else to get better. Ultimately we need Steve back, me/rob to play more regularly, and someone like Simon or Nick to play more, which would ideally force everyone to get better if they wanted to win more often.

What about me??

You need me there to keep the good players in check. No one likes loosing to me.

Also Nick is not very helpfull. To get everyone better you need people that will take the time on others. Dont think I have ever really seen Nick do that.

We need Pete, he was always nice to everyone and wanted everyone to get better so that he would in turn have to get better himself. Plus I always beat him :)

And yet everyone does. Wtf. You dont count because you are always there except when you are banned.
I don't actually agree with that Gary.
When asked I always add my 2 cents, and usually as constructive comments rather than blah blah sounds crap - ask Dan (He sounded a couple of extended decks off me quite recently)

I did put a reasonable amount of effort in to extended this season - I tested with Amar, Simon and Tom - though perhaps not quite as many hours as I would have liked - our performance - 2 top 8's each (except Tom, who is full of bad beat stories atm)

One of the main reasons I am not as good as I used to be, is because I don't feel I have time to sit down and play online like I used to, and testing person to person is usually so awkward to set up.

Side note, I have no freaking idea why I cannot draft ZZW, because I always felt waaaay ahead in ZZZ.
Everyone does what?

Actually I had not been at the club hardly at all before I got banned.

A slight niggle with this. Many of those players actually started off at the Games club in London (certainly Sam and Richard, and I did see Nick and Will there occasionaly).

I think Grover hit the nail on the head with this one though, is that the better player you become, the less you tend to attend local club nights. This only seems to be a recent phenomenon, as certainly London in the past had the majority of the top English players attending at least once a week.

As for me, I'm certainly not as good as I used to be, and I mainly put this down to time spent playing, and drive.

colchester has had trouble with sorting out regular events for the last year or so.

when we had regular weekly events a few years ago (in braintree) the skill level was far beyond the london games club. picture sitting down to draft at a table with mark glenister, richard moore, sam gomersall, will turner and nick west at it. the london games club can't even come close to that in terms of skill level.
I think more good players pointing out that they dont play as much anymore just makes my argument better :)

And Gary, everyone loses to you. And no one likes it.
This is true, both Nick and Tom Reeve have given me good advice (Amar also) in the past few months, and i'd definitely look to them (amongst others) for some more help and testing time in future, particularly Nats.

I just think Gary doesn't like Nick much for some reason... *shrugs*
