Magic: the Gathering in the UK

Great call to arms from Gavin Verhey:

Sort of weirdly overshadowed or confusified by Wizards Community Cup format, "Modern":

Anyone playing in any of the Overextended tournaments?  Jason or anyone else organizing something for July 2?

It might be because I haven't thought about it hard enough yet but these seem like really fun ideas.

Killing dredge completely in the case of Gavin's format is kinda lame.

I mean, neuter it so it doesn't totally wreck the format, fair enough, but removing an entire archetype (also the Cephalid breakfast combo) seems fairly mean.

By taking it from Invasion block, he also nuetered Storm combo, looks like he is really trying to make the format as fair as possible, which I think is a mistake personally.
Is that because you have a dredge deck dan?

Actually Storm came around way after Invasion block and was played in standard and extended. Taking away broken free spells from the storm deck doesnt make it not viable, jut makes it not stupid.

Also as he said in his article he doesnt want it to be legacy-lite, he wants it to be a different format.

As long as Gifts is legal im happy :)

Anyone who owns a deck should be able to play it in some form in such a large format

Not really, im sure there are other legacy decks that dont transfer over. Stax for example.

I meant decks for which the cards exist Invasion->
What dya reckon... time to snap up Rav shock lands while they're still a fiver for the speculators amongst us?
Ben, that might not be a bad idea!
Jason - any chance of a deal on a full set?

Paul,
What would you be after? All of them?

Why? Dredge is a horrible deck to play with and against. The game 2s and 3s are sometimes interesting, but its an archetype that adds restrictions to how decks can work in a format (need to be able to devote 8+ slots to beating dredge post board or have some game 1 outs), which in turn allows other combo decks to suffer from less hate and become overpowered. Especially as Wizards is looking to push creature combat dredge looks like a bad choice.

Also, its a hard deck to just neuter rather than kill, but im sure it could be done.
