Magic: the Gathering in the UK

Have you guys had your PTQ season for Honolulu announced yet? In NZ the number of PTQ's has been slashed from 3 to just 1, In AUS they have gone from 5-6 to just 3.

Is this happening everywhere? Looking very grim for competative magic here, 1 PTQ per season and GP's are all quite expensive to get to :(

it did mate, the whole of the UK got 6. darksphere got one, representing London, Manchester got one, one each for Scotland and Ireland, one in Milton Keynes and I forgot the last.

London players get one qualifier, two chances if they fancying traveling to Milton keynes. other than that, its not worth going up to Manchester to play, especially if its innistrad sealed you might open jank!

it's def. worth going to manchester

day return on national express, leave 1am, arrive 7am

return 23:59 (yes, actual time) arrive 6:30 am

The other PTQ is in Cambridge.

Peter for me that traveling to Manchester would not be worth it!

sleep in the coach each way... :P

I guess its more worth it as a student ;)

Even discounting Manchester you still have 3 you can go to thats not too bad at all. My second closest PTQ is in Australia and would cost me 250 pounds return :(

I dont see people in the pasific having any chance of making the tour, even if they win a PTQ, doing well in the pro tour wont be enough to qualify them for the next one and its not easy to get to GP's like it is in America.

That's the complaint I heard from a lot Kiwi's when I was there. Just going on holiday anywhere is a massive mission. Time and costwise.

We are really lucky to have countries on our doorstep which are culturally different - and lots of opportunities to play Magic!

I will probably be going to Manchester as long as it doesn't clash with something else. Most probably driving up the day before and staying over.

Londoners have absolutely no reason to complain: 3 PTQs within 100 miles!

What exactly are you complaining about?

Well no reason to complain about PTQ's. There are still massive flaws in the new ratings system though, like how once you are qualified how difficult it is to stay there unless you have big tournaments to play in.

PWPs are obviously terrible, I wouldn't call it a rating system.
Yeah I thought we got it pretty sweet as always... given that the north has a bigger player base. Sadly I probably cant make the London PTQ though.. super sigh. But even manchester is not undoable... no real cause for complaint tbh. Also i run super good in MK.

And MK events are always sweet
i've never been that compelled to travel large distances for limited tournaments cus of the higher variance than constructed ones. eg fuck going to manchester
