Magic: the Gathering in the UK

it seems that people have missed this but this saturday, the 3rd, the games club are running their monthly constructed events (the events people bitch about because of small turn out and rewards). this months one is standard and offers the winner a playset of snapcaster mage.

check out the site for details.
im pleased their doing something like this, whether its a direct response from the darksphere events of last month i dont no but it cant be a bad thing for the london player base!

I'm glad this is happening and that there is (hopefully) demand for constructed events and that multiple TO's are willing to support it by putting up serious prizes.

I have commitments for most weekends from now until the end of December so won't be there - but looking forward to the Keith Lovey's and Ironman!

Unfortunately it looks like I won't be able to make this one either - please give more notice in future, and you will hook me in!

EDIT: See you all for the Loveys, OBV.

Phillip,

TGC has been running constructed events for years on the first Saturday of a month, as has been pointed out before. The advertising of this event was first posted much earlier in the year.

TGC is also running a sealed GPT this Saturday as well as the standard event to win the Mages.

ah the old 36-hours-before-the-event update special. excellent! is it cheeky of me to mention that darksphere advertise their tournaments well in advance on a variety of mediums? :p

Nick is a surprise that you got your email that much late than me, maybe Jason will need to look at why that was?

I'm signed up - but the e-mail only came through at 5am yesterday!

This is pretty awesome, but the event says there's a minimum player number required for the Snapcasters - previous monthly constructed events have had almost nobody turn up. I'll be attending to show my support for more Standard tournaments with prizes, and I hope enough people do to make this worthwhile for them to put on in future!

Agreed Kieran on showing support, but a day and half's notice isn't enough, so can't make this one.

Sounds like it was poorly advertised, but I think that it doesnt matter anyway. People just like to complain about the events then not turn up anyway.

I do think than rather than having a cheeky "depends on number of players" it should have a definate number there. I think it looks bad otherwise as they can always run the "oh we needed more players".

What I think needs to be done is get more people wanting to play standard before throwing up a tournament with big prizes. If you dont currently play standard your not gonna buy a deck just to try and win some Snapcasters. Im not sure what the best way to do this is, I would try talking to the players more to find out what they like/dont like.

Can anyone lend me a whole deck for this?

its a step in the right direction though. maybe have a small prize for 1st place but it be set no matter what the turn out. extreme trades have £40 credit for first and £20 for second. this would still bring players in and is much less (trade and cash wise) than a playset of snapcasters for the games club. £40 credit should get you some nice uncommons from madhouse!!! :D

Roy,

Wouldn't Extreme Trades would be giving the trade credit for their own store?

Sorry Jason I don't understand this! The credit is for their own store.

I put my comment because you said '£40 credit should get you some nice uncommons from madhouse!!! :D', I now see the joke!
